Overview: The trailer for The Damned United establishes the plot of the film is set in 1973 and that Don Revie (who is featured heavily in the trailer) is considered the best manager in the country and Brian Clough is considered the unknown wishing to usurp him. The Dialogue suggests that Clough is a rebel in the footballing world. The titles further support this aim to change the footballing ways of Leeds United despite his isolation from his squad and the lack of support from the board at Leeds United.
Effectiveness: In terms of establishing to the viewers the rivalry between Revie and Clough, the trailer is successful in showing this as the character narrative andf narration from the narrator verbalises Clough's rivalry with Revie and his ambition to be a better manager at Leeds United. The trailer also establishes that Clough's personal relations with Peter Taylor are an integral part of the story.
