What is a Trailer? 3: The Terminal

Trailer 3: The Terminal

Length: 2.28

Genre: Comedy Drama

Production Companies: Dreamworks

Overview: The Trailer for The Terminal explains the story of the film revolving around Viktor Navorski who is forced to live in JFK airport in New York due to his passport no longer being valid whilst he was flying to New York. The trailer does not have narration but instead uses titles which are made from a Flight information display system to tie in with the setting of an airport. The trailer is heavily focused on comedic situations that Navorski is in, the anger of Customs and Border Protection and a love interest in another character portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Effectiveness: The trailer for The Terminal is cleverly done with it's integration of text with the FIDS in displaying a summary of the films story and the footage and shots contained show how Navorski ends up in his predicament and teases how the main plot and sub-plots will develop. As the genre is a Comedy-Drama the majority of the content is intended to be humorous such as Navorski shaving in a public toilet and attempting to flirt with a member of security. The general  theme of this trailer is positive likely due to genre and has a lesser serious tone then The Hobbit and The Damned United and the musical score of the trailer is fast paced and light.
